New York Fashion Week is the event of the season for designers, shoppers, and critics with a stake in clothing from all around the world. The designs unveiled during the shows that make up this event will set the stylistic trends for the remaining seasons of the year. Knowing what is hot and what is not starts here. This event is held twice a year in February and September. It can last anywhere from seven to nine days as fashion trendsetters reveal their visions of style to the world. There are several different events that are always held which have come to be branded mainstays. These include the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York showing and the MADE Fashion Week exhibition. This week also regularly brings about several independently-run fashion productions in the heart of the city. Fashion Week in New York takes its place as one of four major productions of this kind in the world. The other cities to host such events include Milan, London, and Paris.
Fashion Week was first held in 1943 in New York City. At this time, the primary producer was Eleanor Lambert. Today, there are a huge number of producers that are involved in pulling off the gathering. During the first official events for this annual happening, these festivities were known as “Press Week” The event was also originally held to detract attention from the influence of the French fashion industry during World War II due to the fact that fashion industry names was barred from Paris at the time due to the war.
Doing a Few Things Differently
There have been few significant changes to the event over the years with the exception of the level of attention that it demands from fashion experts across the globe. However, one relevant change is the shortening of the guest list. The number of members of the press and individuals from the general public who are allowed into the event has been noticeably reduced over the years. Although, television and online coverage of the event has broadened considerably, actually giving the public greater access to the fashion mecca.
The NYC Fashion Week for February of 2014 is set to take place at the Lincoln Center. In the past, the venues that have hosted the event included Damrosch Park and other locations throughout New York City both indoors and out. There are many designers whose names provide the foundation for fashion events of this caliber. These names include designers such as Vera Wang, Polo Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, and Karen Walker. Also among the most respected designers are Gucci and Perry Ellis. There is plenty to enjoy at the event outside of fashion for attendees as well. The upcoming celebration is slated to host pop-up markets by suppliers such as Pier 57, food from renowned vendors such as Dominique Ansel, and individual fashion vendors from names such as Rihanna.
More Offerings Than You Can Imagine
The Spring show is also cutting the usual dual runway of the Mercedes offering down to a single runway for models. People can also get excited about Opening Ceremonies and pop-up salons from respected brand names such as Estee Lauder. This year’s event is promising to address beauty and aesthetic appeal from every angle for both men and women.
